About

Mae Sevick

Chance and discovery are central to Mae Sevick’s painting process. “I co-create with the materials,” she has said, allowing unexpected encounters between water, paint, and surface to shape the final image. Fields of color swell and fold into one another, suggesting biomorphic fragments of landscape and the natural world.

A cellist with sound-to-color synesthesia, Sevick often draws on her impressions of color and movement evoked by music. Her experience of living with a visual-spatial processing disorder informs her exploration of depth and spatial relationships directly on the painting surface. Sevick lives and works in the New York metropolitan area.
